Kayla Harmon

I hadn’t been to the beach since I was nine years old. When my mom told me and brother we were going to the beach, I was so happy. Unfortunately I had to wait until August to go. It felt like those months of waiting went by so slowly. When the day finally came, I was so excited. We had a long boring seven hour drive down to the beach. My brother kept asking, “Are we there yet? How much longer?” which annoyed my parents and me very much.
When I arrived we went down to the beach. It was so pretty, with the deep blue waves crashing together. The beach was so crowded with kids running around while their parents lay in the sun. My stepdad said, “I missed being at the beach.” We went up to our hotel and got into our bathing suits and then went back down to the ocean. My brother went running into the ocean. This one wave was so big that it caught up to our stuff and everything was soaked.
I could hear the children happily playing in the ocean. The sun was shining brightly in the sky onto the beach, making the sand hot. The waves crushed together. I walked into the ocean and huge waves kept coming and knocking me over. I heard my brother screaming as he got knocked over in the water. I pushed my mom in the ocean playfully. My brother came up behind me and pushed me into the water. I noticed how badly I missed being at the beach with my family.
I sat down on the sand where the water would come up a little. I could smell the salty water in the air. We went over to the little shops and walked around. “I wish I could buy everything!” my brother said excitedly.  The smell of the food coming from a restaurant made me very hungry. We went and ate at a seafood restaurant. My mom loves crab legs. She wanted me to try some and I did. They were good but hard to get open. They have a fishy buttery taste.
Our hotel room wasn’t what we were expecting. What we saw online was nothing like what it was in real life. We had four people and the room was very small. My mom said, “Who cares? It’s not like we are living it in for the rest of our lives.” We only stayed a week so it didn’t matter, because we weren’t in the room a lot. The view from the porch was very pretty. I love taking pictures so I took a lot of the beach.
We spent a week at the beach and it was very fun. I loved spending it with my family. The four month wait and seven hour drive was so worth it. I hadn’t been to the beach in almost six years so it felt like I had never been there. I really hope that we can go again next year.
