Karina Rodriguez

I was in sixth grade and we were on a school bus for a choir field trip going to Kings Dominion. Everyone on the bus was so excited and fidgety, they just couldn’t keep still. The trip was two hours long, so it felt like torture, to keep us waiting for so long. When we finally arrived, I saw these huge roller coasters, I heard people laughing and screaming on the loud rides, I smelled the freshly made funnel cake and hot dogs, and I could already taste that cotton candy in my mouth.
When we got there it was raining, so we had to put on some really big ponchos. We stood at the ticket station for about eight minutes while our teacher got our tickets and when she came back she said “Okay, now, split into your groups.”
When we walked in, a person was handing out maps. The maps showed us where all the attractions, food courts, and gift shops were. There were a few big roller coasters, a few water rides, a big drop tower, a sling shot, and differently themed sections of rides.
It was very crowded and the lines were really long, so we had to wait about fifteen to twenty minutes for a few people to get on one ride. There was about three people in our group that wanted to ride the Grizzly, the line to that ride was extremely long we waited for about a half an hour! But, when they were the next ones to ride they we so scared that they bailed out, one girl said “I can’t do this, it’s too scary!” We were there for pretty much the whole day but we still didn’t have enough time to ride all the rides we wanted to go on.
The first ride we went on was called the Hurler. It was a wooden ride that had a big drop. It wasn’t that steep so it was good to start off with. The ride had about three carts and we got in the second one. It had a few turns, but overall it was gentle. We rode a few other rides and then we ate Chick-fil-a for lunch. Then we gradually started riding more rides again. After a few more rides we went to a gift shop.
There were so many shops, it was kind of hard to choose. We walked into a random shop and I immediately saw so many colors. They had colorful neon shirts, a lot of candy, and little items here and there. Just outside the shop, there was a stand with a ton of light up items, I had my eyes set on this one light up bow but I kept looking around, but I thought to myself, “No this is too perfect not to buy,” so I ended up buying it.
At the end of our trip we all gathered at the entrance and waited for everyone to come back. Everyone was rambling about their experiences and what they did. I heard people talk about the Intimidator, they said “There was a huge drop at the end and then a sharp turn, some people blacked out!” When we got on the bus we were all so exhausted and had achy feet. Most people ended up falling asleep, but some were still up. When we arrived at the school it was eight o’clock pm. Everyone said “good-bye,” and “thank you.” to the bus driver and left with their parents to go home.
Looking back on my first trip to Kings Dominion, I remember how much fun I had. All the people in the choir family were really close, so that made the trip so much better. I encourage more people to get with the ones their closest to and go on a crazy trip, because, trust me, it’s really worth it.
