It was a cool fall day back in Edmonton Canada. It was early in the morning about 7 o’clock and I had just woken up. My parents where upstairs drinking their coffee and talking about what we were going to do today. They mentioned yardwork but my brother shot that down very quickly. My dad said, “How about we go fishing?” Me and my brother responded very well to that and we almost jumped out of are chairs in excitement. But there was a problem I didn’t have any fishing stuff. So I asked my Dad, “Where can will we get a pole for me?” He said, “That won’t be a problem we can get one from Canadian Tire.” So for the rest of the morning I could barely handle myself, I was extremely excited to get my first fishing pole.

Sadly we had to do yard work and Noah and I weren’t too pleased that we had to do it, but I had something to work for, my first fishing pole. So we spent a few hours cleaning up the yard, cleaning the koi pond and picking up the leaves. It felt like the longest day of yard work ever, it dragged on for eternity and it felt like each bag of leaves I filled had my life’s work in it. So six big bags of leaves later we finished and now we could head to the store!

We finally arrived at Canadian Tire and I went straight to the fishing section. There were all kinds of fishing poles, I was in heaven. I spent forever looking for the perfect one looking up and down every isle examining every item to see if that was the one I wanted. I finally laid eyes on the perfect one it was a Scooby doo fishing pole with a green reel, blue pole with all the Scooby doo characters on the bottom of it, with Scooby the dog on the button of the reel. Now it was time to take it out and catch some big ones!

We were at the pond and I couldn’t get a hook on my line quick enough. There was a rainbow trout circling right in front of me and it was at least 4 pounds. I tossed my bare hook in and for some crazy reason the fish took it! I finally got to the ground and a few kids my age came up to me with their dads expensive fishing gear and asked, “What did you use to catch that?” and I said, “With my Scooby Doo fishing pole!”

Looking back on this happy memory it shows me a couple of things. You don’t need the best stuff sometimes you just need good luck. I will never forget this story and it will defiantly be a story for my kids when they first go fishin.
